published Michael Cicero's article, "INSIGHT: Patent Ineligibility Defense Expands to Mechanical Subject Matter—Controversy Follows." According to Mr. Cicero, patent attorneys will need to be careful in applying for patents with mechanically-oriented inventions. A day after the Federal Circuit affirmed a ruling that such an invention was ineligible for patent protection, a member of the House Judiciary Committee issued a statement sharply criticizing the Federal Circuit’s decision. This decision further expands the patent ineligibility defense and now endangers mechanical and electromechanical inventions.
